Although digital controls suit many instruments, they do not necessarily suit a bench power supply. Customer research shows that many users prefer the speed and simplicity of conventional analog controls for setting voltage and current. Digital controls may offer greater precision, but often at the expense of ease-of-use. With this in mind, the New PL series has retained the true analog controls of its predecessor.   "Smart" analog controls   The New PL Series uses precision digital circuitry to enhance the analog control system when required with its unique   S-Lock and  V-Span functions.

High accuracy, four digit, fixed-resolution meters   The New PL series uses four digit meters for both voltage and current. The fixed resolution ensures that there are no sudden and confusing changes in the reading. Some other power supplies use 3 digit meters which autorange at 1999 counts. Not only does this reduce resolution, but it also changes the position of the most significant digit. When glancing at the display this could lead to mis-reading of the value by a factor of ten. Improved low current control and metering   In response to the increasing use of low power circuitry, the New PL Series incorporates a low current range. This provides metering with 0.1mA resolution and enables lower currents to be set with more precision. Meter averaging function   As with the original PL series, the New PL incorporates a meter averaging function which reduces the display cycling when working with rapidly varying load currents.
